The Most Beautiful Thing a Girl Can Do Is Smile

Dearest Divas,

Honestly, how sick are you of "mean girls"? It feels like my whole life I have been surrounded by these types of girls, eventually turning into me grouping every single female walking this Earth into the "that girl" section of my brain and completely cutting myself off from them. This is no better then saying something mean for no reason or making a rude comment about them, I am still judging before I get to know the real person inside. This had been a struggle on going for many years now that I continue to face. Cutting people out of my life had proved to be an easy out for me, dealing with an actual situation- not so much.

I realized the other day to wipe away the blur of judgments and pre-conceived ideas I hold against other people, and to really give them a chance, opening up and welcoming them in. So far, this has worked. I used to be so scared of opening up just to get turned down and rejected, however, the more I have grown, the more I have learned to brush off rejection and accept that as the other person's issues. If I never open up to anyone ever again just because I am too scared to be hurt, where will I get in life. Most likely stuck up in my house with no friends or life.

Anyways, moving on from my rant, this leads me to the title of this blog "The Most Beautiful Thing a Girl Can Do Is Smile". This is oh so true! A smile can make the difference in someone's day or even week! I have been told many times by my sisters that when I initially meet someone or am walking and thinking, I tend to give glares or unpleasant faces ( never intentionally) which comes off as me seeming b**tchy or very judgmental. If you get to know me, you know that both of these are so untrue! ..or so I hope :/. Smiling at someone you do not know is such a great way to connect with others just through a small geusture, and to show the genuine you. Who knows, maybe now with this new awareness when I walk I will manage to trip less? That would be nice and not to mention save me a ton of embarrassment throughout the rest of this year.

I miss you all and feel horrible about my tendency to be MIA recently, blame my classes! Seriously, my stress level has been beyond sky rocketing, leaving no time for fun .. or blogging.

Some of the Best Beauty Tips

Dearest Divas,
Here are some amazing tips that beauty gurus share to help out everyday girls like us :) Enjoy!!

"If your skin is on the shiny side, stop by your local Starbucks, grab a handful of those brown napkins, and shove them in your purse. They work better than any blotting papers I've used and they're free. And, don’t feel guilty about pilfering from the coffee conglomerate. If they're charging four bucks for some java and steamed milk, they owe you a shine-free face."
-Daneen Baird

"If you’re not a professional makeup artist, it can be difficult to line those eyes, but then again liquid liner tends to stay on longer and smudge-free. So what I do is, I line my eyes first with a pencil liner because it’s easier to make that straight line with it. Then I go back on the line with the liquid liner. It’s kind of like coloring! The result? Your eye liner will stay on, smudge-free, and well-lined."

"For an eye look that’s defined but not too heavy, line your upper lash line with black eyeliner and the bottom lash line with brown eyeliner. This is one of my biggest makeup artist tricks for beautiful, soft eyes!”
-Mally Roncal, celebrity makeup artist

"Run your eyelash curler under warm water (or blast it with your blow drier for a second) before using it for a considerably curlier result that lasts!"
-Alexis Wolfer, editor-in-chief ofTheBeautyBean.com

"Take a white eye pencil and line the inside rim of your lower eyelid. This really makes eyes pop! Fun fact: Look at the old black/white photos of the gorgeous women of the ‘30s and ‘40s like Marlene Dietrich and you'll see this was done to them. Additionally, if your eyes are a close set, use the white pencil to lightly line the section where the upper and lower lids come together, closest to the nose. This will make them appear wider apart. The key here is to make sure it's sublte."
-Candice Sabatini, editorial director ofBeautyNewsNYC.com

"Save money by creating your own tinted moisturizer. I just put a small drop of my liquid foundation and a dime-sized amount of my daily moisturizer in the palm of my hand. I mix the two and voila! I have my own tinted moisturizer! No new products required."
-Margaret McGriff, Yahoo! Shine community beauty blogger

"If you get yellow nails after months of wearing dark polish, try scrubbing your toenails with a nail brush and whitening toothpaste. It gets rid of the yellow color. Try it—it works pretty well, and you end up with minty fresh toes!”
-Roxanna Sarmiento, beauty and style writer, and blogger at everydaytreats.com

"As I get older, I've noticed that I tend to get more clogged pores and blackheads, so every night I use a retinoid cream (the one I like is non-RX) on my chin, nose, and forehead. If I do this regularly, my skin seems to look smoother, and I'm hoping I avoid breakouts.
-Maria Ricapito, freelance beauty writer for YouBeauty.com, VanityFair.com and DailyGlow.com (just to name a few)

Some tips on retinoid creams:

1. You have no idea what a retinoid is. The term describes vitamin A derivatives that unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines, and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth the skin—sometimes in as little as four weeks. The first retinoid—tretinoin—was FDA approved (under the brand name Retin-A) almost 40 years ago as a prescription acne treatment. Dermatologists soon noticed that patients on Retin-A experienced not just clearer but softer, brighter, less-lined skin. Today there are three prescription-strength retinoids: tretinoin (brands include Atralin, Avita, Retin-A, Retin-A Micro, Renova), tazarotene (Avage, Tazorac), and adapalene (Differin). Many dermatologists find tazarotene stronger (and potentially more irritating) than tretinoin; adapalene is the gentlest but may be less effective.

2. You don't want to go to the dermatologist. While prescription formulas yield the most impressive results, an over-the-counter retinoid, called retinol, can also improve lines and discoloration. Because retinol is gradually converted into retinoic acid (the active ingredient in the prescription creams) it is less potent. Count on 12 weeks before seeing results.

3. You think a retinoid will make your skin sun-sensitive. "This is one of the biggest retinoid myths," says Doris Day, MD, clinical assistant professor of dermatology at New York University Medical Center (and a Tazorac user herself). "The ingredient itself is sensitive to sunlight, which is why you should apply it before bed at night." A retinoid shouldn't make your skin any more vulnerable to UV rays than it would be after buffing away dead skin with a face scrub. Summer is actually a good time to start a retinoid: Humidity makes your skin less likely to dry out as it adjusts. Of course, apply sunscreen (SPF 30, at least) as diligently as you always do.

4. You're afraid your skin will look worse before it gets better. Retinoids can cause dryness, redness, and flaking—but if you ease in, you can avoid a rough transition. For the first two weeks, apply a retinoid every third night, says Leslie Baumann, MD, director of the Cosmetic Medicine and Research Institute at the University of Miami (who uses Atralin). If your skin isn't irritated, ramp up to every other night for two weeks. Not dry or flaky? Go for it every night. A few other irritation-mitigating guidelines: Wait 15 minutes after washing your face before you apply a retinoid, and use one pea-size dab to cover your whole face. After a few minutes, apply a basic moisturizer to prevent dryness.

5. You think you can't afford it. Insurance coverage of a prescription retinoid, like Retin-A, varies by plan, and a 20-gram tube will cost about $75. But generic tretinoin costs about $40—not bad for a product guaranteed (by decades of science) to work. (For now, only tretinoin is available in a generic version.) Some drugstore retinol products are even less expensive. Look for ones with 0.1 percent retinol packaged in aluminum tubes (to protect the formula from air and light); we like RoC Retinol Correxion Deep WrinkleNight Cream ($22).

I hope you enjoyed :)

Life Is a Prize

Dearest Divas,
I know I know.. I have been the WORST blogger ever recently. I am so so sorry to all my amazing friends who keep up with me and my crazy rants:) I have missed blogging so much!!  To sum it up.. my life is nuts!! That is an understatement. I talked to my sister Alana for the first time in weeks ( so unheard of) and realized that I really need to take some time and focus on myself. I have lost almost 15 pounds due to stress so far this semester.. I haven't weight under 100 lbs since I was probably 11... needless to say NOT healthy! Not only have I lost unhealthy weight, but my skin... its horrible!! Stress is seriously something not to mess around with. I have never seen how much of a toll it can take on a persons life, until it has happened to me.
Moving onto something I want to talk about- my amazing cousin Brendon turned 26 this past Wednesday the 5th! So a huge huge huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most admirable young man I have ever met. Brendon is truly one of the strongest people I have ever met. His smile is something to die for. Watching him smile makes my heart so warm it brings tears to my eyes. Happy Birthday Brendon, another year down and many more to go. We all love you SO much.
                                       My amazing Cousins-Tyler,Brendon,Clay and Haley :) <3

Preach it sista ;)....

Recently I have fallen into a side so unlike me. I started to get really stressed with school and realized I was turning into someone I will never ever be, Catty.  As some of you may know, I have a really hard time finding TRUE friends. I have a very different philosophy of what a true friend is, and sadly I have only about a handful of real, true, authentic friends. Recently I started to question my "standards" for what a true friend is, yet realized why would I ever settle for a "friend" who is really just another girl that  the second she turns her back turns into another person than I had thought they were. It is a struggle to find what I look for in a friend, but maybe that isnt such a bad thing. However, no matter how frustrated, stressed, annoyed, pissed off etc. I am , I refuse to let myself fall into the girls I cannot stand. Its a very easy thing to fall into, and honestly I think it mainly comes from insecurities within myself when I fall into that immature state of mind. Now that I finally have had this epiphany- I am going to just be me, if you dont like it- thats fine with me, I have my best friends and would love to make more, but definitely not a judgmental , two faced b**ch. WOW that sounded mean but seriously, I feel like this happens way too much and so many girls just stick around with "friends" who treat them horribly. It hurts me for them. No one deserves to be treated by anyone like I have seen some people be made fun of or talked about. I have always been an "outcast" but you know what, being an outcast has been the best thing that ever happened to me. I look back at times in my life when I was surrounded by "friends"... If I continued down that road I can sure as heck tell you I would never be where I am today! So a message to all of my friends, boys or girls- forget "fitting in" and just be you, if someone doesnt like it, then they can go do their own thing with their fake friends, I can promise you that you will live a life you always dreamed of whether friends are in it or not. I am blessed to have such an amazing family- hence my friends are my 3 sisters and my cousin. Family is forever.

I called my mom today and found out that my dad is going into emergency surgery tomorrow morning. This was a SHOCK to say the least. My dad is a rock. He is the rock of the family and has always been my role model. We have had a rocky past, and considering what he has been through in his life, I cant blame him. No matter what happened between my dad and I when I was younger, he has always been my #1 fan. My dad is the hardest working, most dedicated, driven person I know walking this Earth. He always tells me " If we were in a situation that someone said you have two options, either I cut your daughters finger off, or I kill you. He said he would not even hesitate to die, even if it was just to save us being hurt." I cant help but cry every time I think of him telling me this because I know it is true. He may not always show it, but we are his four angels. We are what drives him every day. It is sad to think he never had a father there like I have, but we all learn from our pasts and lives. Joey choose not to be in ours and his choice may have hurt us for a short time, however, my dad promised to never ever do that to us, or our future children. My dad is a tough guy, but inside he is the most caring, loving sensitive person I know. He just needs to take a break sometimes and realize what he is missing out on. We miss having a dad that was always there to talk, but we understand he is busy. Sometimes in life though, you need to think about time, and what we have left in this world. I know for me I have learned that the hard way the past few years loosing so many friends. It is unreal how precious life is.
I love you dad and will be thinking about you all night and all day tomorrow. You are the most amazing dad in this world. You have made us into the women we are today- all four of us:) We are SO proud of you. <3 you to the moon and back.

Sorry about the insanely long post- I want to fit in another tomorrow!! I love you all tons, you really have no idea how much your support means to me.

It started off around 105 degrees, than got really dark and cooler (99degrees haha). Flaunt it if you got it..

Dearest Divas,
Let me introduce you to one of the most gorgeous, amazing, funny, talented and did I mention sweetest girl? Well, her name is Savannah, "Savannah I am going to be the next Victoria's Secret model ;)". I met Savannah through a mutual friend, and connected through the fact that she is getting into modeling and needed her makeup/hair done for her upcoming photo shoot. Boy, was I so on for this! She is so naturally beautiful, it makes me want to puke :p Just kidding. But really, this girl has got it. She is so modest, it is unreal, FLAUNT IT IF YOU GOT IT GIRL!

Getting ready was super fun. We relaxed and chatted while glamming her up. Of course, as usual we were running late to meet up with Paul, this AWESOME photographer. We scattered for our stuff, and rushed off to meet him. Paul has it all. The lighting, the props, the backdrops and not to mention, a GREAT eye for photography.

Neither of us had to do much work due to Savannah being so stunning, but we did our best ;) Paul was awesome. He was so patient, and by patient I mean 5 hours worth of photos!!!!  Here is one of the 800+ photos he had taken of this beauty.

The Women In My Life

Dearest Divas,

Growing up if you had asked me "who is your role model" or "who would you like to be like when you grow up?" I would have answered something like "Brittney Spears, or Paris Hilton"... Yes I know, EW. But really, lets all go back to a time when we were younger and a role model was not someone who you truly admired traits about, it was most likely someone who was "pretty" or "popular".

As I have grown up, this has changed. I have many different role models for all different reasons. To start off my mother. One of the most amazing human beings walking this earth. Her patience for others and her kindness towards other are something truly admirable. She will start crying talking about some of her students when they tell her about their home life, because she cannot help but hurt for that child. She does not separate herself, instead, she does everything in her power to help that student succeed.  She is determined and creative. She will ALWAYS have the right thing to say when I am in need of advice.

My second role model is my mom's mother, Jane (my grandmom). My grandmom is super woman. No really, she is. She is one tuff cookie, yet will be there for you at the drop of a pin. She never gives up, ever. She is a quiet fighter. By that I mean you will never see her struggle, or see her upset, yet she will make it through anything that comes her way. I could go on for pages about this woman. As I have grown, I have started to learn more and more about her. Her laugh is contagious. She has the best sense of humor. Even with my Papou being sick and hard to deal with at times, she gives him a big kick in the behind, and pushed him to keep going. Without such a strong woman, I wonder where he would be at times. She is a rock. She holds our family together in way so different than most other people. She will never over step boundaries, which makes her so admirable. You WANT to be around her, you want to talk to her all the time and hear her hilarious giggle. As I grow older, I hope to be blessed enough to get at least some of her amazing personality.

Mimi. Oh where do I even start. This woman is so strong, independent, honest, blunt, hilarious and so caring. She has a heart of gold, but will whip you into shape when you need it. My Mimi has been through a really really tough life. At times I wonder how she did it, or still does it. She has gone through so much pain from my "grandfather"(ha ha) who made the biggest mistake of his life by leaving the most amazing woman he will EVER find. But hey, thank goodness - she made out on the other end and lost that loser ;) My Mimi NEVER gave up on us. I am crying typing this right now because it is true. We were given up on, and not wanted by my dads father. Yet my Mimi was always there, every Christmas morning, every Easter brunch, birthday etc. She didn't miss anything for us. I have never EVER missed a second grandfather, because I never needed him. All I needed was my Mimi, and she will always be all I will ever need.

....This is a blog post to be continued. My next one has a few more woman that will be added to this list. They are truly blessings in my life.

Downwards Spiral

My Dearest Divas,
The past few weeks have been FILLED with non stop wedding planning, details, agreements, contracts, schools work, classes, class placements, class work, and trying to maintain a social life. I feel like my life is just one big blur at this point and time and right now, I just need to hit pause! Do you ever get like this?

I let myself get to a place of such exhaustion that it takes days, even weeks to get out of the funk. I should learn by now to limit myself to only taking on half of the world at one time , not all ;). But seriously,at times, I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders.

When it comes to days like these, I stop myself and think. I think about everyone besides me. I think about what they're going through, have gone through, made it through and lastly, what they will go through. It makes me feel all sorts of emotions, but it also comforts me. Deep down inside of us, we are all SOMEHOW similar. We all, no matter how different we may seem have a connection in one way or another.

With this new chapter of my life starting, I have met so many new people. Great people I must say. They have character, and are genuine. I think for such a long time I put filters up against everyone. Not just girls, or old friends, but everyone. I did not let anyone in. I am now learning to trust, and to reach out to others who cannot reach out on their own.

I am exhausted, but looking forward to what this crazy year brings. I just hope I can make it through this exhausting funk and back onto my track :) In the meantime, check out some of our engagement photo's!! I am in LOVE needless to say. Tawn and Tiffanie are truly such amazing people. Talk about genuine, they are two blessings walking this earth.
